The term ‘skinhead’ appeared in 1969 for the first time in the press, when the then Prime Minister Harold Wilson spoke of his Tory rivals as ‘skinheads of Surbiton’. Quickly the word was coined on the subculture, before they were called Hard Mods, Cop Heads, Peanuts or Lemonheads.
